Setting part 2.

As part of our film we have decided to use the underneath of a bridge in whetstone. We have used this place because we thought that it could be anywhere i.e. London, Birmingham/Lutterworth.

The urban looking bridge gives the audience an insight into the life that the charcaters may be leading. Unfortunately for us, previous to the day of filmjing there was graffiti all over the wall, This was not a major problem because the wall looked slightly ruined and tatt anyway.

We seemed to be extremely lucky on the day due to the light, we had a birght sunny day so it was comfortable for us to get all of our shots.

Lets hope when we revisit the location that the weatrher and light are of a similar standard.

Costume options. Hannah.

In our short opening sequence we have to make sure our actors our dressed in the style of the character. With the actors we our using they both do not portray the kind of character we want them to play therefore will will have to dress them appropriately to make sure that our plan is met. For instance jack will be playing a underpriveledged youth that is involved with the local gang. So we have to change

jack. stylish. long hair. blazer. scarves. lucky. well lived. glasses. middle class.
into
hoddie. tracksuit bottoms. maybe jeans. jacket. nike. addidas. skinhead. grubby. no lurxuries. working class.

The person we would like Jack to play is not so underpriveledged that he can't afford major brands like nike or addidas but where does he get the money from ? he doesne have the money to afford brands like allsaints or zara, these brands wud not mix well with the story we are going to tell. We wanted something with more of a street vibe that brings across his life. In his life he may get some things that are nice but only at the price of violence.

For the upper body we have decided to use a hooded jacket to represent the age and the social class of the character, underneth we have used a plain top to not distract and draw attention from the surrounding.

For the same reason as above we used tracksuit bottoms this gives the audience an insight into the boys social networking group. They also show that his hobbie of dance shines through his day to day clothing.

The plain white pums where used to stand out from the trousers to show clear and precise movements.

The denim bag was used because we as a group thought it looked aged and may give the audience the idea that it has been passed down to the boy. This further cannotes to the boy not being financially stable.

Headphones were used to show the boys dedication to dance. As a group we understand that a boy in his position may not be able to afford this luxury, but we thought it was necessary to portray the boys full character.

This is evidence of our planning and what each part of the costume showed.

Hannah- Characters.

After looking and analysing our pitch, we have realised the skill in the characters we are going to use is crutial. We therefore need somebody that is able to dance and act at the same time. We have rounded it down to Olivia Kimberley, a drama and dance student which is perfect for our genre. We have struggled to find a male dancer that is capable of both, as a group we have decided to use Jack, a member of the group. Of course we are going to have to discuss filming issues, becuase he will need to be part of the filimg to gain the grade. Hopefully it will all work out.
:)

Emily Jack Hannah- Music Choice

We have thaught about our music choice alot really and have searched about for UNcopyrighted music. At the moment we havent found a piece to fit our film perfectly so are still in the process of finding one that we all like. We have used websights such as Sound cloud but are still unsucsessful.

The only other idea that we had was to make our own music on our friends mac and asking one of our other good friends to mix it for us. We believe this then will give us the music for our film which we desire, and would fit best with the genre of the peice. as you can tell with our idea classical or jazz wouldnt work but something more hip-hop rap would work better. Somthing with heavy beats for jack being on screen and softer beats for when olivia is showing CONTRAST.

Jack-Flash Dance - The last scene.

As we were concidering doign an audition process style section in our film opening, i have decided to watch and analyse one of the most famous auditions in film history. The fact that it isnt the actual actress dancing is beside the point.
The fact that she isnt accepted in the scene, you can tell this by lookign at the judges faces whilst 'she' is dancing. This is something that us as a group is interested in, we think that by bringing in that element may add a different dimension to the opening. We think that it will also fit with the Kidulthood aspect because opur dancer may not fit in with the 'urban' society that they have been brought up in. There is not much complex editinig in this piece but it is pulled of due to the space it has been shot in. We unfortunatley dont have this kind of space to film the opening so we have therfore decided to take more of a complicated route. For instance we are going to add in some more close up complicated shots, this will be difficult as on average we will shoot 5 or 6 shots for just one dance move but I think this will be payed of when we see the finished product. ..... Eventually.

:)

Jack- Kidulthood.

I have seen a bundle to Brit flicks that show a hyped by stylish glamorised side of London . Should be Lock Stock , or Snatch , or maybe even Notting Hill these movies have always shown the romantic side of London . However that is only the sugar coated topping , there is another world underneath that what is known to most who grew up on the streets of London as the real world . The director of Kidulthood does a masterful job giving a strong one sided vision of the urban London life. The social issues that are highlighted in this film are spot on , whether it be the drug abuse , teenage pregnancies or the ever looming threat of the gang culture with the idiotic craze which is known as Happy slapping .Kidulthood presents to the viewer a true , grim , depiction of a life a 15 year old black teenager Trife and his life growing up in the tough neighbourhood and school where words come cheap .We are taken into his world for just 1 day and meet a whole host of characters who fit into the doomed path of life probably just like Trife . The director chose's location's that were truly urban nitty and gritty to the point that you don't need to marvel at the breath taking scenery. . In general Kidulthood is a deep , dark , depressing look on the darker side of London's youth and by looking at it one will walk away probably wanting to take a look back at his life and see where is his or her future heading for .

After watching the film I felt shocked at how literal the actual fim is. The film really does show the urban side of what normally is seen as such a romantic funny place.... London.
I think kidulthood is one of the best influences for our video as we were looking for an uneasy urban atmosphere.

Jack- Planning.

After looking over our group blog with the group and the teacher we have come to the conclusion that by writing horror on our planning sheets we are giving out the wrong message. When we said it I dont think the group were really thinking about the reprocutions. We have now come to the conclusion that if we want to create an urban atmosphere and effect we are going to have to mix the dance element with something along the lines of that theme. So therfor after deliberation with the teacher, we have decided to mix it with the theme of Adulthood.

Emily- Our film, out look

We cannot emphasise enough that our opening isnt going to be a musical. It will be set in the UK so it relates back to it audience. We didnt want any cheesey rags to riches typical dance film and we didnt want it to be a really bad atempt of a rubbish horror film. So we have taken the element of murder and death from horror and incerted it into the genre of dance to make a neat and different twist. The dance element will not be like westside story/hairspray where the people join in but be part of the script like flashdance/ step up ect. Therfore it is a film about dance not a film with dance, which makes a significant diference to the audience and how are film will be percieved. The horror section is linked with the dance section; the person is being murded the person dancing's choreography is baced on the murded happening. The dance will play a juxtaposition to the murder happening. Quite difficult to explain but we believe it will look very effective. The music to the film can be created.
